Plastic Beverage Bottles

April 19, 2009

Plastic is poisoning our oceans and a lot of that plastic comes from plastic beverage bottles. As the images above show, tons of plastic enters our oceans from our overuse of plastic beverage bottles. Approximately 1.5 million barrels of oil—enough to run 100,000 cars for a whole year—are used to make plastic water bottles, while transporting these bottles burns even more oil.  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s standards for tap water are more stringent than the Food and Drug Administration’s standards for bottled water.

Buy yourself a reusable water bottle and drink tap water or filtered tap water. You’ll save yourself some money. You’ll help reduce the amount of oil used to produce plastic beverage bottles and you’ll help reduce the amount of plastic going into our oceans – helping to save the ocean. Learn about more reasons to ditch bottled water.
